In the state of NSW, it is illegal to drive a motor vehicle while performing any act that is likely to interfere with the proper control of the vehicle.

A distraction is anything that takes your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel or your mind off driving etc. Some of those road rules include:

Road Safety Road Rule 299 which notes:

A driver must not drive a vehicle that has a television receiver or visual display unit operating if the screen is visible to the driver or is likely to distract another driver.

Furthermore, it should also be noted that Road Rule 297 also states,

A driver must not operate a vehicle unless the driver has proper control of the vehicle.

Did you also know that if a smart watch (for example like an Apple Watch) is being used for the mobile phone features while operating a motor vehicle in NSW, the mobile phone rules apply and not just the distraction rules mentioned above!

Did you know that taking your eyes off the road for 2 seconds doubles the risk of a crash or near a crash? For more information, please be sure to visit https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/roads-safety-and-rules/warnings-and-hazards/driving-distractions
