The ‘Demerit Points Relief System’ was applied in some Countries in the middle East years ago, countries such as Dubai and Kuwait and essentially it is a form of rewarding drivers who drive safely for a certain period.

But how does it apply in NSW?

The demerit points relief for ‘safe drivers’ trial ran from 17th January 2023 until 16th January 2024, and it applied to all unrestricted NSW Licence Holders (this includes professional drivers).

If an ‘eligible driver’ (meaning an Unrestricted NSW Licence Holder or a Professional Driver) maintained an ‘offence free record’ during this trial period from 17th January 2023 until 16th January 2024 then one demerit point was removed from their driving record.

TFNSW began demerit point deduction process from mid-April 2024 for eligible drivers who were offence free from 17th January 2023 until 16th January 2024.
